Seattle-based LeoStella is a state-of-the-art small satellite design and manufacturing company, redefining how high-quality satellite constellations are built at scale. The company is pioneering a revolutionary engineering and manufacturing process from the ground up to accelerate the development and production while lowering the costs of small-sat constellations. LeoStella is looking for an Automation Engineer to develop tools, systems, and applications to improve the efficiency and reliability of our satellite production line. This position is ideal for a candidate who constantly strives for improvement, believes self-driving cars will eliminate traffic, and probably has a Raspberry-Pi controlling something in their house.

Duties specific to this position:

In this position, you will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and synthesizing opportunities for automation. You will develop a wide variety of applications and systems to help our organization build faster, test more consistently and reliably, and quickly process data. These tools will range from simple post-processing scripts, to complex and highly integrated hardware/software systems that control and monitor our satellites. You will be responsible for training others, and maintaining your systems so our production operations run smoothly. You will learn about satellite systems and their design principles, and be exposed to every component and subsystem that makes them work.

Responsibilities:

  • Interface with engineers, technicians, and management to identify opportunities and develop plans for automation
  • Write software to control and monitor components, subsystems, and complete satellites
  • Architect, design, procure, and build systems to enable comprehensive testing our satellites
  • Document your work in procedures, users manuals, and wikis to enable others to use your products
  • Maintain and upgrade existing tools to keep them current with the satellite design
  • Seek out new technologies, tools and approaches to maintain LeoStella‚Äôs position as a leader in small satellite manufacturing

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (or greater) degree in Electrical, Computer, or Aerospace Engineering or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience developing integrated hardware/software systems
  • Experience with LabView or other system control and automation software
  • Experience with debugging and testing methodologies
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder) due to government regulation of the space industry

 Desired Qualifications:

  • A passion for technology and rapid execution of sophisticated space missions
  • Experience working in a production environment
  • Experience with PCB design and associated design tools (e.g. Altium)
  • Experience developing, deploying, and maintaining system control and automation applications
