LeoStella is looking for a proven Embedded Systems Engineer to lead a multi-disciplinary team in the development of satellite avionics systems. Embedded Systems Engineers at LeoStella are involved throughout the engineering lifecycle, from understanding customer and mission needs through design, integration, test, and ultimately the operation of satellites. This position is ideal for a candidate who possesses the eagerness and aptitude to adapt and extend traditional systems engineering and spacecraft hardware and software development practices to an agile and low-cost environment.

Duties specific to this position:

As a Lead Embedded Systems Engineer, you will be engaged in all aspects of satellite system, subsystem, software, and component design and test. You will establish avionics subsystem architectures, flight software development approaches, hardware and software requirements, and interface definition. You will support the design and development of space electronics through all phases of the product lifecycle. When acting as a Responsible Engineer for one or more satellite subsystems, you will architect, design, and test electrical subsystems and software. You will write specifications, review electrical designs, schematics, simulations, and test data for embedded systems incorporating FPGAs, microcontrollers, analog and digital signal processing, motor control, and sensor/data acquisition. Example subsystems include: command and data handling, electrical power systems, communications, mechanism control, camera and image processing, and ground test electronics.


  • Fuse Agile software development principles with hardware development methods to effectively lead the development of high-performance spacecraft embedded systems
  • Develop avionics subsystem and component level requirements and verification plans for hardware and software
  • Participate in many functions of the embedded systems team such as digital design, analog design, flight and/or test software development, and testing of hardware and software.
  • Work with integration testers to develop test plans that ensure adequate testing of units and systems
  • Interface with external suppliers and customers to manage requirements and verification, provide/review deliverables, track technical progress, and assist in anomaly resolution.
  • Produce and review documentation related to system-level electrical design (e.g. flight harness schematics, interconnect diagrams, grounding schemes)
  • Seek out new technologies, tools and approaches to maintain LeoStella‚Äôs position as a leader in efficient space system engineering

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (or greater) degree in Electrical, Computer, or Aerospace Engineering or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience supporting delivery of embedded systems (or 5+ years with a relevant Master of Science degree in Engineering)
  • Proven capability to lead in-house and subcontractor component/subassembly design
  • Experience with diagnosis, debug and component, assembly, and system level testing methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to work across the team and company to drive designs to completion.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder) due to government regulation of the space industry

 Desired Qualifications:

  • A passion for technology and rapid execution of sophisticated space missions
  • Proficiency with the following tools or analogous ones: Altium, LabVIEW, Confluence, JIRA, Jama (or similar requirements tracking software such as DOORS)
